The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 states that it shall be the duty of an employer to ensure (so far as is reasonably practicable) the health, safety and welfare at work of all their employees. Under Regulation 3 of The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 the employer is required to assess the risks to workers and any others who may be affected by their undertaking and record the significant findings of that assessment.
The following professions require critical medicals. Failing in someones health during operation would cause serious injury or loss of life.

- Forklift Truck drivers
- Night workers
- Lone workers
